Coast Care are an active bunch of volunteers. As well as our regular beach cleans, there will be a range of environmental conservation and protection activities over the coming weeks that you can get involved with: 

  • Removal of invasive species, such as Piri Piri burr and Sea Buckthorn from various coastal dune systems
  • Purple Milk Vetch survey methodology training and subsequent flora surveys across the AONB for PMV and other rarities.
  • Tern platform preparation on Coquet island
  • Rocky shores training - a survey methodology training event with Heather Sugden from Newcastle University 
  • Further meadow and habitat management at Embleton quarry
  • SSSI Whin grassland improvement work near Bamburgh
  • Installation of visitor sitting/resting benches at Low Newton to support accessibility to the Hide, and at Beadnell to support the new beach access facilities
  • Beach cleans and some possible sessions help with Northumberland County Council Public rights of Way team on small repairs to improve the Northumberland Coast Path
  • Constructing a large barn owl shed and bird boxes
