Join Martin Kitching (North East Regional Officer for MARINElife and Northumberland/Durham Regional Coordinator for Seawatch Foundation) to learn more about identifying and recording whales and dolphins in Northumberland.

Martin has coordinated the groundbreaking citizen-science focused North East Cetacean Project for the last 9 years and alongside other organisations, including Coast Care and the Environmental Records Information Centre NE, is keen to establish and support regular shorewatch surveys along the whole of the Northumberland and North Tyneside coastline to further complement the project’s regular offshore surveys. With a recent surge in the number of dolphins spotted in our local waters it’s incredibly important to monitor population size, distribution and behavior to confirm the ecological value, and need for conservation, of our local marine mammals. Whether you’re an experienced observer, or just curious about what’s out there, come along, ask questions, and learn how your own sightings of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) can make a real difference to the conservation of some of our most enigmatic and iconic wildlife!

Please note that this training is FREE of charge however booking is required. To book please email info@coast-care.co.uk

This is now being held in The Hub (main building) due to popular demand.
