Dog walkers, let's bag it AND bin it!

Coast Care volunteers have reported an increase in the amount of bagged dog waste being left on the beaches and in dunes along the Northumberland Coast – not a pleasant sight, smell or item to clear up! During a recent beach clean-up, 18 bags of dog poo were collected from Bamburgh, a popular dog walking spot within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sadly, it’s becoming an ever-present occurrence on our coastline.

To combat this issue, Coast Care is launching the #ifyoubagitbinit campaign, which aims to reduce pollution and litter at the beach. We're calling for fellow dog walkers to help improve beach cleanliness by working together. By doing so, we can continue to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of our coast and protect the water quality too. We’re hoping to make beach walking safe and enjoyable for locals and visitors alike.

Bacteria present in dog poo can be harmful to beach users and can affect water quality, so if you visit the beach with your four-legged friends, please do your bit to help by bagging it AND binning it! You can check the water quality rating in your local area on the Environment Agency’s interactive map.
