Creating Coast Care and a blast from the past
Well it’s been a busy few weeks getting everything up and running in preparation for meeting our new volunteers, but before we discuss that I’m going to take you back in time 9 years to when Laura and I first met!

Well it’s been a busy few weeks getting everything up and running in preparation for meeting our new volunteers, but before we discuss that I’m going to take you back in time 9 years to when Laura and I first met!

I had travelled from North Yorkshire to Madagascar for work experience and the adventure of a life time. When I arrived I met Laura a friendly scot with very similar interests and a likeminded view on how we can help our planet one step at a time.

Laura and I spent a month together doing scuba diving surveys and living the rustic life with no electricity or running water, whilst building a budding friendship.

We then parted ways to go forth and fulfill our dreams. Through the power of Facebook, we stayed in touch reminiscing about the fun times on a Madagascan beach. We also talked on the phone through our mutual work as volunteers for the British Divers Marine Life Rescue ( BDMLR) a marine Rescue Charity helping to organize seal rescues.

It was by pure chance we were both hired to be two thirds of the coast care team and were reunited again.

Upon seeing each other for the first time in 9 years it was like no time had passed at all, we were straight back into our friendship laughing and joking like before.

So talking of creating Coast Care, we have been up and running 4 weeks now everything is starting to take shape. There is a lot involved in starting from scratch and we want to do the best we can for our coastline, with so many great projects planned for a variety of volunteers.

It is great to be working with our project leader Tim, as a team we are all using our individual knowledge and experience to shape Coast Care into the type of group we are proud of and that we would want to volunteer for. We are excited about our drop in sessions and a chance to meet the future of our group and the ways it can take shape. If you would like to find out more about Coast Care, why not pop in for a chat or browse through our website? If you have any questions drop me an email at anna.chouler@northwt.org.uk.
